YMCA John Island Camp is on of YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s summer camp and residential outdoor/environmental education centre. We are located near the town of Spanish, Ontario Canada. YMCA John Island Camp is proud of its reputation of providing high quality camp experiences in a fun, caring, and safe environment, all while being on a unique, inspiring setting in the North Channel of Lake Huron!
We are currently looking for a Waterfront Specialist to join our team of committed and professional staff. Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Waterfront Specialist is responsible for all waterfront activities at John Island Camp. They plan, prepare, facilitate and are responsible for the safety of all staff and participants in programs happening in and around the swimming area, with the water trampoline and the floating dock, canoeing and sea kayaking.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
Experience planning and facilitating waterfront programs in an overnight camp environment
Experience overseeing staff in a waterfront setting and ensuring safety of all participants Knowledge in health and safety standard regulations
Knowledgeable in areas of waterfront safety and emergency waterfront procedures
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
Responsible for all development, scheduling, training of staff, and delivery of all John Island Camp waterfront programs including but not limited to swimming, canoeing, sea kayaking, water trampoline and floating dock
Responsible for the evaluation of campers in waterfront activities (swimming, canoeing, sea kayaking)
Responsible for leading all Waterfront Emergency Procedures and all rescues that happen at the waterfront at John Island Camp
Responsible for the safety and supervision of all programs at the John Island Camp waterfront
