Under the direction of the Program Supervisors & Coordinators and the Manager of Camping & Outdoor Education Programs the Program Rovers is responsible for providing program area support. The Program Rovers are responsible for providing Family Programming based on program area needs. The Program Rover is a part of the larger Program staff Team and will also be responsible for Reaction and evening programming, emergency procedures, and attending staff meetings and events.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) preferred
Current Criminal Reference Check (dated within 6 months prior to contract start date
Strong Risk Management skills
Pleasure Craft Operator’s card required
Level 1 Windsurfing Instructors preferred
Paddleboard Instructors preferred
Sailing Instructors preferred
Canoe/Kayak Instructor Certifications preferred
Expedition Risk Management and trip planning experience preferred
Previous Trip Leading experience preferred
Instructor or Coaching Certifications in Adventure Activities or Recreational Sports preferred
Non-violent Crisis Prevention certification preferred
Duties and Responsibilities:
Delivery of Maintenance: To work in coordination with the Manager of Camping & Outdoor Education Programs and the Manager of Plant and Facility to provide maintenance to summer program areas and the cottage line. To clean the exterior of cottages weekly.
Programming: To work in the summer program areas as directed by the Program Coordinators.
Family Programming: To work in summer program areas as directed by the Program Coordinators and Program Area Supervisors; to help ensure efficient and effective operation of the program areas including equipment and facility maintenance, and all to assist with administrative duties associated with the program areas including program jottings, lesson sign-up, achievement awards, and evaluations.
Role Model: To act as a positive role model for other staff and guests of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka whether on or off duty. To abide by all rules and regulations.
Customer Service: to provide timely and professional interaction with all guests of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka to ensure quality customer service and satisfaction.
Staff Development: to participate in all ongoing staff development including training, orientation, hands-on learning, performance management and evaluation
