Seasonal Polar Bear Tour Operations Manager

Job Description

The Tour Operations Manager is a seasonal position based in Winnipeg from early October through late November. This person is responsible for a wide variety of administrative duties supporting the operation of Natural Habitat Adventures’ polar bear expeditions. The position provides an opportunity to gain experience in the adventure travel industry in a dynamic, team-based environment.

Natural Habitat Adventures runs 85+ polar bear departures with more than 1,500 travelers passing through Winnipeg and Churchill during the 7-week season. This position is office-based, with responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Meet, greet and brief guests in a friendly and professional manner
  • Confirm passenger information and reservations
  • Confirm and maintain hotel reservations
  • Confirm and maintain dinner reservations
  • Confirm and maintain reservations for all components of optional local excursions
  • Confirm and maintain transportation needs (ground and air) with third-party vendors
  • Complete post-season report and supply inventory in a timely and accurate manner
  • Be available to assist clients with questions and problems
  • Support other staff members whenever necessary
  • Represent NHA as a fully trained, professional staff member. Read NHA brochures/website to understand our company, our trip offerings and other involvements.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times, often in challenging interpersonal situations

Due to the intense nature of the short season, long hours, including very early mornings and late evenings, are required most every day in order to achieve ultimate customer service. The Tour Operations Manager must, therefore live at the Fort Garry Hotel for the duration of the season. Lodging expenses, meals and transportation to/from Winnipeg and the beginning and end of the season are covered by Natural Habitat Adventures.

REQUIREMENTS

Legally authorized to work in Canada. The ideal candidate will have at least 2-4 years administrative experience required. A demonstrated passion for travel/tourism, environmental responsibility, nature/wildlife, or a related field is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be motivated to grow and progress in the industry.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Working knowledge of office systems and equipment (e.g. computers, telephones, copiers, internet). Proficiency in MS Office applications. Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High levels of integrity, maturity and enthusiasm. Must be able to adapt to changing and flexible responsibilities. Ability to work individually and as part of a team. Must possess the interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with all types of people: staff, guides, clients, vendors.
