$38,000.00 – $48,006.40 per year

This is a full-time, salaried, permanent position with and includes the following benefits:

The Griffith Island Club is a privately owned sporting shooting club situated in Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada. The 2300 acre island provides its membership with clay target shooting, sport fishing, game bird (Pheasant & Partridge), Turkey and Whitetail Deer hunting activities during the season. The club is a luxury retreat for some of Canada and North America’s social elite. The membership enjoy exclusive access to the club from April until December each year although it is operationally manned year round. The club in its current format was established in 1973 but its history can be dated back to 1609.

The lodge caters for 22 individuals and has its own private chefs, club staff and an extensive logistical operations program including a 2700’ grass landing strip and fleet of watercraft that operate on a daily basis in season.

The club is continually developing its strategy to deliver unique and exceptional hunting experiences and is currently recruiting for the position of Outdoor Team Leader (Game).

This is a full time permanent supervisory role that is in direct support of delivering on the club’s Board directives specifically related to game bird and habitat management.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate a minimum of five years proven experience in game bird management and hunting techniques particularly Pheasants and Partridges. They must have a minimum of two years management or supervisory experience in the sporting/gamekeeping and/or maintenance or hospitality sectors. Applicants should have proven experience and ideally an associated qualification in deer management, along with qualifications in game meat hygiene.

The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity and enthusiasm. They will have a diverse range of skills including, but not exclusively, proven practical game bird (rearing from chicks) and habitat management, deer management, handling of working gun dogs, farming, forestry and the use of all associated machinery, maintenance and general repair skills, computer literacy and strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities. Candidates should have familiarity with the operation of a wide range of watercraft as boat operations are essential to the role. A desire to succeed is essential supported by enthusiastic leadership and the ability to act as positive role model to other members of the team. This position is to be recruited on the basis of the successful candidate being able to demonstrate a long term commitment to Griffith Island Club.

Specific Duties:

  • Working alongside the Head Gamekeeper and Outdoor Team Leader (Operations) you will deliver on the clubs game bird and habitat management programs
  • Maintain accurate game, habitat and deer management records and produce written reports for Senior Management and Board level
  • Provide representation and contribution at GIC Game Committee meetings
  • Coordinate and deliver the islands deer management program as directed by the Game Committee
  • Identify and promote new game management & hunting opportunities preparing budget costs where appropriate
  • Conduct occasional hunt guiding in Spring and Fall hunt season
  • Fulfil other duties where appropriate & as directed by the Senior Management team
  • Liaise with Outdoor Team Leader (Operations) to ensure that work schedules are delegated and implemented on daily basis
  • Operate all watercraft essential to operations at Griffith Island Club
  • Organise hunt schedules to deliver exceptional hunting experiences to members and their guests ensuring sufficient guides are available
  • Liaise with the hunting dog contractor in support of the clubs hunting dog program
  • Work with the Senior Management team to develop and implement annual hunting guide training
  • Ensure compliance with all current Griffith Island Club policies and procedures
  • Act as ‘Duty Manager’ on a shared rotational basis
  • Deputize for senior managers in their absence


  • Game Keeping & Game Bird Rearing – Minimum 5 Years (Required)
  • Supervisory Experience in Hunting/Sporting/Hospitality – Minimum 2 Years (Required)
  • Deer Management – 5 Years (Preferred but not required)
  • English written and spoken
