OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE (OLE) FIELD INSTRUCTORS

FULL TIME

 

Start date: ASAP

Reports to: Outdoor Leadership Therapist

Location: Algonquin Park (South River, Ontario) and Shelburne, Ontario

The primary responsibility of the Field Instructor is to deliver the Outdoor Leadership Experience program; ensure group safety, teach basic wilderness skills, solidify course logistics, and maintain focus on the therapeutic elements of the wilderness experience.

The schedule is run on a rotation of 9 days in the field (in Algonquin or Huntsville area), 3 days off, 3 days working at the campus near Shelburne, and 6 days off shift. Qualifications:

We are looking for individuals with the qualifications and related experience in Wilderness field work, demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, patience, commitment, an ability to maintain clear boundaries, and a sense of humour. Required qualifications are:

      • WFR with experience managing backcountry medical issues
      • Minimum Bronze Cross Certification with NLS preferred
      • B.A., B.Sc., or college diploma in related field
      • Experience working with at-risk youth and young adults in a wilderness setting
      • Clear certification of Vulnerable Sector Criminal Check
      • Willingness to secure Canadian work permit, if required
      • Valid Drivers F Class License (obtain within 6 months of hire at employees expense)
