Outdoor & Experiential Education Coordinator


Tim Horton Children’s Ranch (THCR) is spread out over 150 acres in beautiful Kananaskis Country. Located a 1 hour drive west of Calgary, Kananaskis is surrounded by popular tourist communities including Banff and Lake Louise. THCR offers a panoramic view of the Canadian Rockies and glacier-fed waters.

Does this sound like you?

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring a large team, experience as a Program Supervisor in a residential camp setting
  • Experienced at facilitating outdoor excursions for groups of diverse youth within a camp or outdoor recreation/education environment
  • Demonstrated ability to use strong judgement and make decisions in a fast paced environment
  • Strong at group facilitation and successfully adapt facilitation style based on individual or group needs
  • Experience with risk assessments and crisis management
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time at camp and work flexible hours
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable drivers abstract
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Search or Vulnerable Sector Search, as applicable
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas a must:
    • outdoor rock climbing both top rope and lead climbing
    • white water pursuits and are comfortable in a guide position
    • hiking in the mountains, strong knowledge of Kananaskis back country

What would you be doing?

  • Support the successful execution of camp activities based on the Foundation’s program outcome frameworks (both for summer and year-round school groups)
  • Act as master facilitator, modelling and providing exceptional mentorship to program staff
  • Support the Program Managers with recruitment, training, and performance feedback as needed
  • Host and facilitate groups participating in our school groups program
  • Establish relationships with youth that reflect respect, trust and empathy
  • Model healthy choices and emotional maturity
  • Build and sustain relationships with aligned community partners
  • Identify, assess, and appropriately manage risks and on-site crises in line with THCF’s risk management standards
  • Ensure program areas, equipment, and supplies are clean and in good repair, fully stocked and organized
