Job Description

Trails Youth Initiatives is a charitable organization, and ministry-inspected private school, that provides year round outdoor experiential education to students from Toronto at our 143-acre site in Stouffville, Ontario. Our mission is to challenge and equip vulnerable youth from at-risk areas of Toronto to become contributing members of the community. We are currently looking for facilitators/teachers to join our summer staff team working 10-12 day sessions, with opportunities to extend contracts throughout Fall, Winter and Spring to continue working with participant groups when they return to Trails on weekends during the school year.

Our participants commit to four years in the programme and are challenged to develop socially, emotionally, and mentally through outdoor adventure-based activities. Participants develop skills in communication, leadership, and teamwork, with a focus on well-being, personal growth, and nurturing the self. Over the course of their time at Trails, participants have the opportunity to obtain three secondary school credits, gain volunteer hours, and complete relevant certifications.

Trails is currently looking for both onsite summer staff and tripping staff for the below dates. We are accepting applications for those interested in both single and multiple sessions.

Onsite sessions:

Monday July 2nd – Friday July 13th

Monday July 17th – Thursday July 26th

Tuesday July 31st – Saturday August 11th

Offsite Sessions (Canoe Tripping):

Tuesday August 14th – Sunday August 25th 

What we offer:

Wages range from $1100 – $1400+ /session

(Dependent on qualifications and experience)

Room & Board

Opportunities to renew contract during weekend 2018/2019 season


Required of all staff:

◊ Current Standard First Aid/CPR

◊ Completed Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (valid within 2 years)

◊ Attendance at staff training (Friday, June 22nd – Sunday, June 24th)

Tripping staff (Year 3 summer session):

◊ Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) / Wilderness First Responder (WFR)

◊ Current Swimming Certification Bronze Cross/NLS

◊ F-Class Drivers License (Preferred)
