Seasonal Outdoor Educator – School Year Program Facilitator

Job Description

Throughout the fall, winter and spring, we welcome schools from low-income neighbourhoods for two distinct four day, three night trips to camp to participate in our Community Leaders Program. Students leave their school community to participate in camp experiences designed to develop life and leadership skills which provide the building blocks for youth engagement.

Between camp visits, students challenge themselves with constructive actions and each group creates their own community service project. The program inspires students to instill positive cultural change in their schools and fosters a commitment to making their communities better places.

Camp Location

Tim Horton Children’s Ranch – Kananaskis, AB

Tim Horton Children’s Ranch (THCR) is spread out over 150 acres in beautiful Kananaskis Country. Located a 1 hour drive west of Calgary, Kananaskis is surrounded by popular tourist communities including Banff and Lake Louise. THCR offers a panoramic view of the Canadian Rockies and glacier-fed waters.

What would you be doing?

  • Delivering high-quality, intentional programming designed to meet specific outcomes and develop positive skills
  • Inspiring young people to discover their strengths, challenge limits, and build resilience and leadership capacity in a safe and supportive environment
  • Providing leadership and guidance to other staff, modeling inclusivity and mentorship
  • Ensuring the safety of our participants and guests at all times
  • Ensuring program areas are organized, stocked, and in good repair
  • Ensuring participants and guests are properly trained in activities and follow safety protocols
  • Reporting incidents, and completing the appropriate documentation

Does this sound like you?

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in recreation, outdoor/adventure education or a related field preferred
  • 2 years of experience working with children/youth of various abilities, preferably in an outdoor setting
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills
  • Skilled in behaviour management and problem solving
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification
  • Certifications: Level I or Level II Challenge Course Certification – an asset
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Ability to live on-site for an extended period of time and work flexible hours
