YMCA John Island Camp is on of YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s summer camp and residential outdoor/environmental education centre. We are located near the town of Spanish, Ontario Canada. We are currently looking for a Norquay River Trainer to join our team of committed and professional staff. Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Norquay River Trainer is responsible for the planning, preparation, implementation and debriefing a 35 day river expedition that is the second year leadership program at John Island Camp. This person will be responsible for working with a co-instructor to deliver a program focused on developing participant’s leadership, wilderness travel, whitewater canoeing and camper care skills. The goal for this position is to provide opportunity for leadership development that relates directly to the camp environment but is also transferable to other environments.
Certifications and/or experience in whitewater canoeing, canoe tripping, whitewater rescue, lifeguarding and wilderness first aid is considered an asset.
This is a summer contract positions for the months of June, July and August. This position will require temporary relocation to YMCA John Island Camp for the duration of the contract. Staff accommodation/room is provided.
