ABOUT THE POSITION
Outward Bound Canada works in conjunction with an educational and therapeutic organization, providing care to youth and their families struggling with addictive behaviour.
As Emergency Response Coordinator, your role will be to manage emergency response and logistics for our Youth Challenge expeditions. Your work schedule will be Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. You will be emergency on-call from Saturday to Monday for the Youth Challenge program and any other public program that may be in the field. You will also be supporting the Youth Challenge Manager in preparing the gear and supplies for the field, as well as maintaining and sorting gear coming out of the field.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with Youth Challenge Manager to coordinate the ongoing successful execution of the Youth Challenge program.
Provide on-call service, manage or execute evacuations and other field responses.
Support OB instructors through challenging in-field situations.
Prepare gear and supplies for weekly staff transition days.
Maintain and organize gear returning from the field.
Maintain organization and inventory of available equipment, as well as aid in equipment purchasing.
Fill in as auxiliary field staff when necessary.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED
Proficient in behaviour management, crisis intervention, and problem solving.
Experience leading extended wilderness trips and program delivery.
Ability to be a significant contributor to several small teams.
Experience in maintaining a positive staff team and environment.
Well practiced in communicating effectively with a high level of professionalism.
Technical and interpersonal excellence.
Ability to establish effective rapport with staff and students.
Comfort in working with youth with difficult life stories.
F-Class (or equivalent) Driver’s License
Wilderness First Responder
Bronze Cross or NLS
Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (PMAB) (provided through training)
Post Secondary education in outdoor education, adventure therapy, or relevant field of study (asset)
Position requires police background check including Vulnerable Sector Check
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Per diem rate range $150 – $175
