Job Description

YMCA John Island Camp is on of YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s summer camp and residential outdoor/environmental education centre. We are located near the town of Spanish, Ontario Canada. YMCA John Island Camp is proud of its reputation of providing high quality camp experiences in a fun, caring, and safe environment, all while being on a unique, inspiring setting in the North Channel of Lake Huron!

We are currently looking for a Challenge Course and Climbing Specialist to join our team of committed and professional staff. Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Challenge Course and Climbing Specialist is responsible for all challenge course activities at John Island Camp. This include the initiatives program, the low challenge course elements, the high challenge course elements, the climbing wall, the zip line and Walkhouse Climbing.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or education in adventure programming or challenge course, zip line and climbing wall operations
  • Experience training staff with challenge course related skills and group facilitation Knowledge in health and safety standard regulations
  • Knowledgeable in areas of challenge course, climbing wall and zip line safety, rescues and life safety systems
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience or education in adventure programming or challenge course, zip line and climbing wall operations
  • Experience training staff with challenge course related skills and group facilitation Knowledge in health and safety standard regulations
  • Knowledgeable in areas of challenge course, climbing wall and zip line safety, rescues and life safety systems
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Responsible for all development, training of staff, and delivery of all John Island Camp challenge course program delivery, including but not limited to, all high ropes elements, low ropes elements, initiatives, zip line, climbing wall and Walkhouse climb.
  • Responsible for supervising all counselling staff facilitating programs in the challenge course areas of camp including zip line and climbing wall
  • Responsible for doing daily and monthly inspections of all challenge course equipment and elements.
  • Responsible for working with the Camp Director in the development, review and updating of all Local Operating Procedures
