Job Description

Camp Couchiching (or Cooch) is a registered independent not-for-profit corporation. Originally focused on the summer residential camping experience, Cooch has grown to offer camping, leadership training, community outreach programs, and outdoor education centre opportunities for children, families, school groups and adult groups throughout the entire calendar year. Cooch continues its strong commitment to provide a fun learning experience for young people with a special emphasis on integration of special needs and traditional camping values.

Camp Couchiching is currently seeking qualified tripping staff. The position will run from June 25th – September 2nd 2017.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that equipment is being properly maintained, including drying out tents when they return, washing food barrels etc.
  • Lead trips for cabin groups, ensure that trips are fun and safe experiences for cabins
  • While on trip responsible for the overall decision making and ensuring the safety of the trip
  • Ensure that all trips leave camp on time and clean up their trip when returning to camp
  • Involve campers in the trip preparation and clean up phases whenever possible
  • Supporting other camp programs onsite, such as evening programs, cabin coverage etc as needed


  • National Lifeguard Certification
  • Standard First aid and CPR C
  • ORCKA certifications are an asset
  • Experience organizing and leading canoe trips
  • Wilderness First Aid is an asset
