Lead 25 – 35 day expeditions down historic Canadian rivers for our campers this summer!
Our Leadership Programs center around the preparation and execution of a multi-week white water trips. We are looking for staff to run the following trips:
Our trips aim to build passion, technical and life skills for our 16 year old campers. Instructors will take advantage of the landscape, inherent risks and challenges, cultural significance of the land to mentor participants about leadership development, self-awareness and the environment.
Before participants arrive instructors will thoroughly plan their route and programming which will include topics like paddling techniques, First Nations history in the area and leadership development. During the first few days of the program, trainers will work to build relationships between participants while the group plans, prepares and packs at Camp Pine Crest before the group leaves for their expedition.
In addition to delivering training on leadership theory, group development, and skill development while on an extended out trip the Leadership Trainer must also possess the certifications and experience necessary to manage risk and demonstrate good judgment while leading these trips. This position requires prior white water paddling experience and prior trip leadership. All leadership trainers are expected to demonstrate a high level of accountability and act as positive role models.
In this position the Adventure Leadership Trainer is responsible for administering our High School Credit program, a Ministry of Education approved course. Strong organizational and administrative skills are an asset.
Nestled on the shores of beautiful Clear Lake, YMCA Camp Pine Crest is situated on 650 acres in Muskoka, Ontario. Since 1910, it has provided outdoor camping experiences, with traditions that carry through today with canoe trips, outdoor survival skills and wall climbing, and much more. At Pine Crest we focus on making every camper’s experience special and memorable by providing them with small group experiences in nature where each child feels included. We are dedicated to providing all of our campers and families with genuine opportunities to learn and have fun!
On the job training includes a combination of nearly two weeks of in camp training, white water paddling, and trip leading experiences.
*certifications are required by contract start date. The camp will subsidize all certification fees by 50%.
Salary Range: $525.00 to $625.00 weekly.
Contract Dates: June 18 to September 1st.
