Under the direction of the Program Coordinators and the Manager of Camping & Outdoor Education Programs, the Adventure & Nature Centre Supervisor is responsible for the development, delivery, safety and supervision of programs in the Adventure & Nature Program Areas. The Adventure & Nature Centre Supervisor is a part of the Senior Staff Team and thus responsible for the interpretation and enforcement of the rules and regulations as they apply to program staff and program areas. Team members also have direct responsibility for the application of the progressive discipline process when required. Supervisors will be in charge of an assigned Reaction Crew (RC) and responsible for emergency procedures, Evening programming and attending staff meetings and events.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR – Level C required
Wilderness First Aid/Wilderness First Responder (WFR) preferred
Current Criminal Reference Check (dated within 6 months prior to contract start date) required
Excellent Customer Service skills required and experience working with youth required
Bronze Cross required, NLS preferred
Leave No Trace ethics required, certifications preferred
Instructor or Coaching Certifications in Adventure Activities or Recreational Sports preferred
ACCT accreditation (Level 1, 2, or Course Manager) preferred
Non-violent Crisis Prevention certification preferred
Knowledge of YMCA Geneva Park programs and facilities is an asset
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision and Safety: to supervise the Adventure & Nature Centre and a Reaction Crew. To know and understand all information and procedures for emergency response, site safety and security.
Programming: to create and instruct innovative programs for guests of Geneva Park in the Adventure & Nature Centre as well as for Reaction Crew and Evening programs as per the guidelines established by the Program Coordinators. To actively participate in all Senior Staff Team planning meetings
Operations: to help ensure efficient and effective operation the program area including seasonal program area opening and shut down, equipment and facility maintenance, and all administrative
duties associated with this position including program jottings, staff scheduling, payroll input, weekly reports, monitoring inventory, collecting of money and prompt reporting of charges, evaluations, and a final report.
Role Model: To act as a positive role model for other staff and guests of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka whether on or off duty. To abide by all rules and regulations.
