Qualifications Required:
•18 years of age by commencement of camp program
•Current Standard First Aid & CPR
•Pleasure Craft Operators Card is an asset
•Current Canoe Instructor certification is an asset
•Programme delivery in a residential camp setting
•Challenge course instructor training/experience facilitating challenge course programmes
•Comfortable working on all aspects of a high challenge course
•On site residence is a requirement of this position
•Evening and weekend work is a requirement
•Hours of work will vary with registered programming program hours are usually 7:30am to 10:00pm
•A clear Criminal Record Check
•A clear Intervention Record Check through Alberta Children’s Services
•The contract dates are July 1st – August 30th 2012

Major Responsibilities:

The Programme Director is responsible for the planning, coordinating and delivering all base camp programs. In addition the Programme Director supervises an assigned group of Assistant Counsellors, providing them with guidance, mentorship and supervision.

Position Duties
•Ensure the quality, continuity and flow of the Explorer and Discoverer Programmes
•Ensure that campers are in the right place, at the right time doing the right activity
•Assist Counselling staff with planning and delivering programmes (e.g. cabin activities, Discoverers rotations, etc.)
•Ensure campers are supervised during at all times
•Assist the Lifeguard and Ropes Specialist in the delivery of waterfront and challenge course programmes as needed
•Assist with staff skill development through hands on training
•Ensure campers who are driven to/picked up from camp are supervised and entertained
•Plan and deliver the on-arrival games and orientation session
•Plan and deliver all camp programmes, recruiting other staff to help as necessary

Human Resources
•Supervise an assigned group of Assistant Counsellors
•Be a member of the staff recruitment and selection team for Assistant Counsellor positions when available
•Be a member of the staff training team
•Ensure subordinate staff maintain current certifications
•Provide performance appraisals for staff: informally (verbally) once per month and formally (written) at the midpoint and end of each staff member’s term
•Coach, mentor and discipline staff members, as required, with assistance from the Programme Coordinator

Administrative Duties
•Assist in administration and maintenance duties as assigned
•Complete set-up and clean-up tasks before and after groups
•Perform in other positions as required
•Write a report on summer camp programmes to be completed prior to the last week of camp

All Other duties as assigned
