INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY - OUTDOOR EDUCATOR

Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve Ltd. The "Forest" or "Wildlife" as it is known locally, represents the largest private land holding in Central Ontario. Over 70,000 acres of forests, lakes, streams and wildlife form the backdrop for this world-renowned property. Operating as a multi-use facility, the Forest has gained international recognition for its resource management policies and practices. With the natural beauty of the forests and lakes set to last in perpetuity, Haliburton Forest has created a wide range of attractions and activities permitting visitors to enjoy this unique wilderness. Entwined throughout the operation is an extensive and very unique outdoor, environmental and experiential education program.

Haliburton Forest is dedicated to providing quality education programs to both youth and adults in a variety of settings.

Position Task:
To assist in the delivery of outdoor, environmental & experiential education programs at Haliburton Forest.

Start Date: May 3, 2010 End Date: August 31, 2010

Responsibilities:
· Assist in the development and planning of programs for client groups;
· Assist in facilitating, teaching and leading group activities and programs;
· Ensure a safe environment for clients;

Selection Criteria:
· Creative, energetic and able to participate fully in active programs;
· A keen interest in gaining experience to teach and lead outdoor and group focused activities;
· Ability to provide quality customer service working with groups, general public and Haliburton Forest staff;
· Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment;

Qualifications:
The following are not necessary but are assets to have:
· Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate University Degree or College diploma with related field experience;
· Current first aid and CPR certificates;
· Current Bronze Cross or higher life saving qualifications


Hours of Work:
Interns work an average of 5 days per week during the core hours of 7:55 am to 5 pm. Evening/overnight work may be required. Any hours worked outside of these core hours will be taken in lieu time. Weekdays worked will be according to the preset monthly schedule.

Remuneration:
Interns receive a weekly allowance for food plus free accommodations in exchange for the work that they would perform for Haliburton Forest.
