The YWCA Edmonton has recently completed the construction of trails, boardwalks and viewing platforms at a 10 acre wetlands environmental appreciation area adjacent the main YWCA YoWoChAs Outdoor Education Centre site called Franklin Wetlands. The Franklin Wetlands Environmental Program Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of developing the program for this natural area. Their main duties will involve researching the natural area to determine the various species of plant and animals, researching potential client groups, developing a marketing campaign, developing program resources, implementing and delivering the first series of programs, evaluating the effectiveness of the program and instructing YWCA instructional staff for the ongoing continued program delivery at the Franklin Wetlands.

This is a 9 month interm position created through the Youth Eco Internship Program in partnership with YWCA Canada. The start date will be April 23, 2010.

This position is being offered through the Youth Eco Internship Program (YEIP) at YWCA Canada with funding from the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan. Candidates must be 15-30, unemployed, and Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have been granted Refugee Status in order to be eligible to apply for this position.

The YEIP particularly encourages applicants from visible minority, Aboriginal, immigrant, refugee and traditionally marginalized communities, and is committed to providing employment accommodation supports for youth with disabilities where reasonably possible.

Mimimun Qualifications:
• Possess a degree or diploma in outdoor recreation, environmental sciences or related field
• Experience in program development and implementation
• Experience in program delivery in residential summer camp, outdoor recreation and/or environmental awareness
• Experience delivering programs to youth
• Current standard first aid and CPR
• Onsite residence is a requirement of this position
• Evening and weekend work may be required
• A clear Criminal record check and a clear Intervention record check
