Programme Director
Contract Dates: June 27th – Aug 26th, 2010
Position Summary
The Programme Director is responsible for the planning, coordinating and delivering all base camp programs. In addition the Programme Director supervises an assigned group of Assistant Counsellors, providing them with guidance, mentorship and supervision.
Position Duties
Ensure the quality, continuity and flow of the Explorer and Discoverer Programmes
Assist counsellors with planning and delivering programmes (e.g. cabin activities, discoverers rotations, etc.)
Ensure campers are supervised during open activities, free time and discoverer skill rotations
Assist the Lifeguard and Ropes Specialist in the delivery of waterfront and challenge course programmes
Assist with staff skill development through hands on training
Ensure campers who are driven to/picked up from camp are supervised and entertained
Plan and deliver the on-arrival games and orientation session
Plan and deliver all camp programmes, recruiting other staff to help as necessary
Mealtime Programmes
Wide Games
Campfires
Land based morning programmes
Special Event
Open Activities
Survival Game
Provide direct supervision to an assigned group of Assistant Counsellors, providing them with ongoing constructive critical feedback as well as performing their formal evaluations
Write a complete evaluation and recommendation report of the Base Camp program to be completed before the end of the contract
Other Duties:
Assist in the administration and maintenance of the centre as assigned
Complete end of group reports for user groups
Complete set-up and clean-up tasks before and after groups
Perform in other positions as required
Write a report on summer camp programmes to be completed prior to the last week of camp
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
18 years of age by commencement of camp programme
current Standard First Aid and CPR
programme delivery experience in a residential camp setting
challenge course instructor training
comfortable working in a high angle environment
current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification and/or boating instructor certification is an asset
Pleasure Craft Operators Card
Notes
—on site residence is a requirement of this position
—evening and weekend work is a requirement
hours of work will vary with registered programming, when working with user groups, programme hours are usually 7:30am to 9:00pm
—All successful candidates are required to submit a Criminal Reference Check and an Intervention Record Check from Alberta Children’s Services.
