Position Duties
Programme Planning

•Plan Residential Summer Camp, Outdoor Education and Outdoor Recreation programmes as assigned

Programme Delivery
•Provide excellent customer service
•Act as a host and instructor for user groups
•Be able to instruct all programme options offered at the centre during the term of employement
•Ensure the safety of all participants, chaperones, volunteers and staff
•Use personal talents and skills to make recommendations for the improvement of YoWoChAs Outdoor Education Centre programmes

Programme Administration and Maintenance
•Assist in maintenance of the Centre’s site, facilities and equipment as assigned

•Complete set-up and clean-up tasks before and after user groups

Serve as a member of the senior programme team
•Assist in development and implementation of programme plans
•Assist in monitoring, development and evaluation of centre programmes

Work Environment
•The YWCA YoWoChAs Outdoor Education Centre is a year round centre located 80km west of Edmonton on Lake Wabamun
•On site residence is a requirement of this position, accordingly, room and partial board are provided. For more details regarding living on site policies refer to YWCA YoWoChAs Outdoor Education Centre Guidelines for Behaviour.
•Your accommodation must be maintained in accordance with YWCA YoWoChAs Outdoor Education Centre living on site policies
•Evening and weekend work is a requirement
•Hours of work will vary with registered programming although usually hours are between 7:45am to 9:00pm. 

Outdoor Programmers must:
•Be able to work with distractions and background noise
•Be able to work with/around young people (ages five through eighteen), as well as adults

Qualifications Required:
•Current Standard First Aid and CPR

The Programme Manager’s primary role is to ensure the successful implementation and delivery of TIG programmes.  This is a key managerial role in the company; the Programme Manager is a vital centre point between clients, participants and staff.  This position is suitable for a dynamic team leader who has solid experience in training and facilitation, working with young adults and excellent interpersonal skills.
The Programme Manager recruits and manages programme staff, develops and delivers training, oversees programme delivery, develops and implements the safety and risk management system and interfaces with other departments.  S/he makes recommendations for changes to programmes, standard operating procedures (including safety and first response practices) and programme staffing.  
We are looking for a fun and active partner with a strong outdoor education background working with multi-cultural students, participants as well as multi-national companies.  Previous work in a camp, outdoor school or centre is desirable.  

REQUIREMENTS (partial)
-Minimum 10 years’ experience working in the field of outdoor and adventure education and teambuilding with school and corporate groups.  
-Degree/diploma or equivalent certification and experience in outdoor and/or adventure education/recreation, physical education, environmental education and/or a related field.  
-Advanced certification and experience in three outdoor technical skills, at an instructor/examiner level (lifeguarding trainer, kayaking instructor/examiner, IRATA, etc.).  Copies of certificates and logbook, if relevant, will be required.
-Current advanced First Aid qualifications: Wilderness First Aid and CPR qualification, or equivalent, minimum.  Instructor-level certification preferred.  Copies of certificates required.

TERMS AND COMPENSATION
-Salary commensurate with experience

•Assist with pre-service and in-service staff training on challenge course policies and procedures.
•Maintain the physical ropes course area on a daily basis in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
•Ensure all ropes equipment is in the appropriate locations and ready for use.
•Ensure ropes equipment is inspected and set up for use.
•Ensure ropes equipment is stored properly when not is use.
•Report any equipment damages or losses to Programme Technician.
•Remove all unsafe equipment from service until repaired.
•Assist in or complete equipment repairs as needed
•Log use of ropes equipment and challenge course elements daily

Administrative Duties
•Assist in administration and maintenance duties as assigned
•Help campers to keep their area in a clean and orderly manner
•Assist campers in carrying out sparkle time duties as assigned
•Complete set-up and clean-up tasks before and after camp sessions

Major Responsibilities:

The Programme Director is responsible for the planning, coordinating and delivering all base camp programs. In addition the Programme Director supervises an assigned group of Assistant Counsellors,  providing them with guidance, mentorship and supervision.

Position Duties
•Ensure the quality, continuity and flow of the Explorer and Discoverer Programmes
•Ensure that campers are in the right place, at the right time doing the right activity
•Assist Counselling staff with planning and delivering programmes (e.g. cabin activities, Discoverers rotations, etc.)
•Ensure campers are supervised during at all times
•Assist the Lifeguard and Ropes Specialist in the delivery of waterfront and challenge course programmes as needed
•Assist with staff skill development through hands on training
•Ensure campers who are driven to/picked up from camp are supervised and entertained
•Plan and deliver the on-arrival games and orientation session
•Plan and deliver all camp programmes, recruiting other staff to help as necessary

Human Resources
•Supervise an assigned group of Assistant Counsellors 
•Be a member of the staff recruitment and selection team for Assistant Counsellor positions when available
•Be a member of the staff training team
•Ensure subordinate staff maintain current certifications
•Provide performance appraisals for staff: informally (verbally) once per month and formally (written) at the midpoint and end of each staff member’s term
•Coach, mentor and discipline staff members, as required, with assistance from the Programme Coordinator

Administrative Duties
•Assist in administration and maintenance duties as assigned

•Perform in other positions as required
•Write a report on summer camp programmes to be completed prior to the last week of camp

Major Responsibilities:

The Leadership Specialists are responsible for planning and delivering the Leaders-In-Training (LIT) and Counsellor-In-Training (CIT) programmes and act as a resource staff person.

Camper Care and Supervision
•Ensure campers return home in the same (or better) condition in which they were sent to camp
•Manage all risks present during the camp session 
•Ensure campers maintain an adequate level of health and hygiene
•Assist campers in problem solving dilemmas as they occur, referring the dilemmas to appropriate resource staff as needed
•Redirect the behavior of campers as needed in a fair and appropriate way 
•Provide 24 hour per day positive role modeling
•Provide emergency care as required
•Distribute medicinal needs of campers while on off-site trips
•Act as a Counselor and resource leader for campers as required

Maintenance and Administrative Duties
•Assist in pre-camp set-up and post-camp clean-up
•Help campers to keep their area in a clean and orderly manner
•Assist campers in carrying out sparkle time duties as assigned
•Complete reports as required (incident, behavioral, et cetera)
•Complete an end of camp report prior to the last week of camp
•Complete performance evaluations for each LIT and CIT participant

Plan and deliver the Counsellor-In-Training (CIT) and Leader-In-Training (LIT) programmes, conforming to programme guidelines
•Plan and lead experiential sessions included in the LIT and CIT curriculums (i.e. leadership, camper care, counselling skills, etc) as directed
•Assist campers in gaining skills necessary to obtain first aid and Pleasure Craft Operators card certification
•Debrief sessions and experiences with LITs and CITs to further learning and reflection
•Supervise CITs while they are shadowing staff members
•Prepare, lead and debrief a off site trips for both programmes

All Other duties as assigned
