GIS and Wildlife Technician
Friends of Hullett (FOH) manage the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry and Ducks Unlimited Canada. The Friends of Hullett are currently accepting resumes for a GIS and Wildlife Technician. The successful candidate will have a post secondary diploma or degree in natural resources. They will assist with the management of the Hullett Provincial Wildlife Area and the various projects of the FOH.
Duties Include:
• Collecting field data and Arc GIS mapping
• Assisting Board of Directors and assisting and leading Friends of Hullett Staff, volunteers
• Liaise with partners, organizations, volunteers, and the general public
• Website design and administrative duties
• Preparing technical reports and writing funding applications
• Recording and analyzing biological data/Surveying and assessing habitats
• Health and Safety program development
• Social media networking (Facebook and Instagram accounts)
Required Skills:
• Advanced knowledge of computer systems and a variety of software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, ArcView GIS and Outlook
• Possess superb oral and written communication skills
• Proficient at identifying native and introduced flora and fauna, especially invasive species
• Detail oriented, independent and organized
• Must have a Valid Class G license with clean driving record.
• Experience operating UTV, ATV and snowmobile
• Working experience with GPS units
• Ability to conduct field work in various terrains and inclement weather
• CPR, First Aid and Pleasure Craft Operators Card
• Chainsaw Operator Certificate and Hunting License/PAL an asset
• Mechanically inclined would be a great asset
This is approximately an 8-month contract position with a May 2017 start date and a December 31, 2017 finish date. The successful candidate will earn $14/hr to $16/hr and work 40hrs/week. The candidate will be expected to work some weekends and occasionally evenings. Resumes and cover letters are to be submitted to fohoffice@tcc.on.ca no later than 5pm on April 18, 2017.
