ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Aquafor Beech Limited is seeking an Ecologist to join their environmental consulting practice in their Guelph office. This intermediate-level position involves providing support to multiple disciplines within the firm, under the direction of the Ecology Lead. Specific tasks include and are not necessarily limited to biophysical surveys, mapping, report writing, and related analysis. We are looking for a long-term fit with someone who wants to make a difference with a leading edge environmental consulting firm and is able to integrate with an established team. The ideal candidate has in-depth training and experience as a Biologist, Ecologist or Environmental Scientist, with strengths in wildlife surveys, ecological monitoring, and GIS. Preference will be given to candidates with previous consulting experience. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in inclement weather.
JOB DUTIES
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical, technical and interpersonal skills to join our team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of applied experience, including experience in environmental consulting, and will be expected to lead or contribute to all elements of project delivery. Key responsibilities include the following:
- Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, taking the lead on specific tasks, taking direction on others, and collaborating with your colleagues to maximize work productivity and quality;
- Participate in field studies as required;
- Contribute to proposal and report writing;
- Contribute to recommendations to mitigate the potential impacts of development;
- Describe project results through the preparation of high quality written reports and public displays;
- Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have the following mandatory qualifications:
- Degree from a post-secondary institution (e.g. Bachelor’s degree)
- Experience in field collection and analysis of ecological data.
- Wildlife and flora identification skills.
- Ability to identify species-at-risk in Ontario.
- ELC certification (proof of certification required).
- Working knowledge of planning policy and environmental regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports.
- Proven track record of delivering effective results and solutions.
- Ability to manage their time and adhere to project schedules and budgets.
- Strong written and oral communication (English) skills.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a private vehicle.
The following are considered assets:
- Ability to perform breeding bird surveys.
- OSAP and electrofishing certifications.
- Proficiency with GIS software (e.g. ArcView)
