We are currently seeking a Planning and Regulation Technician with exceptional customer service skills to complement our Planning and Regulation team. This contract position is responsible for providing technical program support to assist with the delivery of plan review and permit services. The position is primarily responsible for reviewing and preparing permits, conducting site visits and permit compliance checks and responding to inquiries from landowners, consultants, developers, municipalities and other conservation authorities. The incumbent will exercise professional judgment within established policy and procedural parameters. The provision of excellent customer service is crucial.
To be successful in this position your qualifications will include:
- Graduate from an approved university or college with background in land use planning, natural resource management, ecosystem management or related fields
- Minimum 2-3 years demonstrated experience in planning and policy driven programs or natural resource management
- Understanding of Ontario municipal land use planning, the development process, and provincial policies and technical guidelines in relation to natural hazards and natural heritage planning
- Experience reviewing development applications and preparing permits under Conservation Authority Ontario Regulations or other environmental legislation an asset
- Exceptional customer and client service skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products, GIS mapping, land survey equipment and GPS
- Administration skills and organizational skills
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License with a clean driving record
